Welcome to the ‘fungal zeitgeist’ – will our future with fungi be fruitful?
Ali Ashby joined members after the formal business of the Annual General Meeting to give a talk on the ‘fungal zeitgeist’ - the current explosion of interest in the fungal kingdom…a fungal renaissance.
About Ali Ashby
Dr Ali Ashby is a Fungal Biologist with a passion for promoting fungal science. She gained a BSc in Microbiology from the University of East Anglia and a PhD in plant microbe interactions from the University of Durham. She held research fellowships at Jesus College and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and then an independent Royal Society University Research Fellowship where she researched fungal sexual development and fungal diseases of plants. She has been involved with various BMS committees and was Chair of the Fungal Education and Outreach Committee, coordinating the inaugural UK Fungus Day event as well as many other public engagement activities. Ali was awarded the BMS ‘Fungal Outreach Award’ for outstanding contribution to fungal education and outreach. She is an educator, author and supporter of start-ups in the fungal space.
